About the Winery

Ferren was founded by winemaker Matt Courtney with his longtime friend David Wherritt, after Courtney's eight-year apprenticeship with Helen Turley at Marcassin Vineyard on the Sonoma Coast. The winery is based in Healdsburg and makes tiny lots of artisanally made, single-vineyard Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Every vineyard is on what Ferren calls the true Sonoma Coast. Silver Eagle Vineyard sits atop Stoetz Ridge, between the coast and the Russian River Valley; Volpert Vineyard is at the end of Taylor Lane outside Occidental, with the Pacific in sight; and Zephyr Farms Vineyard has been farmed organically by Greg Adams since it was planted in 2000. The wines are made with traditional Burgundian methods, without fining or filtration, and fermented only with native yeasts from the vineyards.

There is no tasting room, and Ferren does not receive visitors. Wines go to members, and new buyers join a waitlist on the website. The day below heads into the Green Valley near Forestville and Sebastopol, close to Ferren's coastal vineyards, for three estates that do host.

Tasting Fees

Ferren does not offer tastings.

On the day below, tastings are $60 at Hartford Family Winery, $35 at Iron Horse and $35 at Dutton-Goldfield, paid directly to each winery.

Tasting fees as of October 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
