Alexander Valley · Sonoma County
A certified organic farm on the Russian River at the north end of Alexander Valley. Eco Terreno's farm does not receive visitors; here is what to know, and a day at sought-after estates nearby that do host.

Eco Terreno began with a moment in 2012. Founder and winemaker Mark Lyon was staying in the house on his Alexander Valley vineyard when he saw a small bird foraging on the ground while someone in a hazmat suit sprayed fungicide on the vines nearby. That summer he toured the vineyards of Bordeaux, and he came home determined to farm without chemicals. The name is Spanish for "ecology of the land."
The farm sits on the banks of the Russian River at the northern end of Alexander Valley, a short drive from Cloverdale, where morning fog from the Pacific gives way to warm afternoons. It is certified organic and farmed as a whole ecosystem, with a produce garden, olive trees, a bee garden, animals and cover crops among the vines. Every Eco Terreno wine is 100 percent estate grown; Natalie Dale is associate winemaker and Jose Sanchez manages the vineyard.
The farm itself does not host visitors. Eco Terreno pours its wines instead at an urban tasting room in San Francisco's Jackson Square, open Thursday to Sunday, and sells them online and through its wine club. For a day in the same corner of Alexander Valley, we take guests to small estates nearby that do open their doors.
Eco Terreno does not offer tastings at the farm.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from Geyserville Inn or a Healdsburg hotel such as Hotel Trio.
Geyserville Inn, at the north end of Geyserville, is about 15 minutes from Peay's winery in Cloverdale, and Hotel Trio, on Dry Creek Road on the north side of Healdsburg, about 25. Since Eco Terreno's farm does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do. The day below fits a six-hour tour, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 15 minutes away. Brothers Nick and Andy Peay farm one of the most remote vineyards in California, on a hilltop four miles from the Pacific, and make the wines with winemaker Vanessa Wong at their winery in Cloverdale. The Current Release Tasting ($50) is a tour of the winery and a tasting of five wines in the barrel room, for up to 6 guests. By appointment only; availability varies, and we make the request for you.
About 15 minutes away. A family winery whose Dry Creek Valley vineyard on Lytton Springs Road was planted by Angelo Lencioni, who bought the land in 1910; its tasting lounge on Geyserville Avenue pours old-vine Zinfandel and Petite Sirah. A 60-minute tasting is $25. Open Thursday to Monday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; groups of 8 or more call ahead.
About 5 minutes away. Chef Dino Bugica's restaurant in a historic building on Geyserville Avenue, with Neapolitan-style pizza from a wood-burning oven, handmade pasta and house-cured salumi. Lunch is served daily from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 15 minutes away. Founded in 1986 by the pediatric surgeon Dr. Alfred deLorimier; its 2016 Cabernet won the red sweepstakes at the 2020 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. The tasting room's back patio looks across the whole valley. The five-wine flight is $25. Open daily, 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; walk-ins welcome for up to 6.
Back in Healdsburg by 3:45 p.m., within six hours of pickup.
Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting. Rancho Maria opens Thursday to Monday, so this day works Thursday to Monday. Peay's availability varies, so we confirm that appointment first. Diavola is a few doors from Rancho Maria.
About $100 to $125 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
