About the Winery

Tom Dehlinger planted his first 14 acres on an aging apple ranch on Vine Hill Road in 1975, when he was 28, making him one of the first winemakers to bring vineyards back to western Sonoma County after Prohibition. He built a small winery with his brother Dan, an architect, and soon met his wife, Carole, and the two raised a family on the ranch. Today two of their daughters, Carmen and Eva Dehlinger, run the winery and the vineyard, and Dehlinger is still independent and family owned after more than 50 years.

Everything Dehlinger makes comes from the 80-acre estate on Vine Hill Road, refined over the decades with regrafting, better trellising and replanting rather than expansion. The range is Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah, with the Pinot Noirs the heart of it, from the flagship Altamont and Goldridge bottlings to blocks such as Champ de Mars and High Plains. Wine Spectator gave the 2024 Estate Pinot Noir 94 points. Most of the wine goes to the winery's Allocation List.

A visit here is a quiet, seated tasting at the place the wines are grown. Discover Dehlinger gives a broad look at the estate, and Pinot and Place puts the flagship Pinots side by side and often adds a rotating pour from the library. It is a good first stop for anyone who wants to understand what Russian River Valley Pinot Noir tastes like at its source.

Tasting Fees

$45 for the Discover Dehlinger Tasting. $75 for the Pinot and Place Tasting. A complimentary 15- to 20-minute Micro Tasting of two wines is also offered by reservation.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
