Guy and Judy Davis founded Davis Family Vineyards in 1997, and from their estate vineyard, Soul Patch, in the heart of the Russian River Valley, they set out to bring people together around their wines. Guy has worked his whole life in the vineyard and the winery, and today he makes the wines with his youngest son, Cooper, the assistant winemaker. The family also runs a second tasting room, High Country Wine & Provisions, in Highlands, North Carolina.
The family believes in minimal-intervention winemaking and in "treating our soils as the first living thing." For more than 20 years they have grown and bought sustainably farmed, organic or biodynamic grapes, working with some of California's leading growers, and they make a wide range of limited wines from many varieties and sites across Northern California.
The winery recently moved to a new home on Timothy Road, near downtown Santa Rosa. Tastings are small and personal, at three set times a day, and the family describes them as an intimate peek at wines in progress followed by a tasting of current releases. It is a good fit for guests who like to talk with the people making the wine.
Tasting fees to be verified upon reservation.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Pickup at 10:50 a.m. from a Santa Rosa hotel such as Hotel E or Hotel La Rose.
Hotel E, a restored 1906 Beaux-Arts landmark on the square in downtown Santa Rosa, and Hotel La Rose, a 1907 hotel in Santa Rosa's historic Railroad Square, are each about 5 minutes from Davis Family Vineyards, and we pick up at 10:50 for the 11 a.m. tasting. The day below fits a six-hour tour, and extra time can be added by the hour.
The 11 a.m. tasting of current releases and wines in progress, about an hour (fee confirmed when we book).
About 15 minutes away. Carol Shelton is a five-time Winemaker of the Year whose 2011 Wild Thing Zinfandel made Wine Spectator's Top 100 of 2014, and she pours her single-vineyard Zinfandels and Rhône-style wines in a homey tasting room in a Santa Rosa business park. The reserve tasting is $20, waived with a one-bottle purchase. Walk-ins welcome; open daily 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
About 10 minutes away. Chef Mark Stark's modern tavern on Fourth Street in Santa Rosa, with plates to share from the American South, Asia and Jewish comfort food, and two patios; we reserve the table for you. Open daily from 11:30 a.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 20 minutes away. Colombian-born Bibiana González Rave, trained in Cognac and Bordeaux and named the San Francisco Chronicle's Winemaker of the Year in 2015, hosts only two groups a day at her small winery. The Hero's Journey tours the lab, cellar and barrel rooms, then pours five wines at a seated tasting ($75, applied to any wine purchase), 60 to 90 minutes. By appointment only.
Back in Santa Rosa by 4:40 p.m., within six hours of pickup.
Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting. Cattleya hosts only two groups a day, so we book its afternoon slot when we confirm your 11 a.m. tasting at Davis Family.
About $95 per person in tasting fees for Carol Shelton and Cattleya, paid directly to each winery; the Davis Family tasting fee is to be verified upon reservation.
