The winery that bottled the Russian River Valley's first single-vineyard Pinot Noir, poured on the Chalk Hill side of Healdsburg, and a suggested six-hour day of tasting around it.

Davis Bynum was the first winery on Westside Road in Healdsburg, and in 1973 it released a small lot of Pinot Noir from the Rochioli vineyard, the first single-vineyard Pinot Noir from the Russian River Valley, at a time when the grape was still a stranger to the region. Gary Farrell began his career as winemaker here in 1978. In 2007 Davis Bynum chose Tom Klein and the Klein family, fourth-generation California farmers and owners of Rodney Strong Vineyards, to carry on the winery.
The wines are Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grown only in the Russian River Valley, led by the River West Vineyard in the heart of the valley, along with single-vineyard bottlings from sites such as Dutton Ranches and Lindley's Knoll. Greg Morthole joined Rodney Strong as lab director in 2005 and has made the Davis Bynum wines since 2010, with a low-impact approach the winery calls Let the Land Speak.
Davis Bynum is poured at the Rodney Strong Vineyards tasting room on Old Redwood Highway, inside the Chalk Hill appellation, indoors in the remodeled tasting room or outside on the Terrace. Flights cover the current single-vineyard wines or a 50th-anniversary selection, and the Reserve Tour & Tasting adds Rodney Strong and ROWEN wines.
$40 for the Davis Bynum Flight of five wines, or the Davis Bynum 50th Anniversary Flight. $65 for the Reserve Tour & Tasting. Complimentary for club members.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
