D'Argenzio means "people of silver": the family's ancestors were silversmiths in Italy, and in America their patriarch, Alfonso D'Argenzio, was a master cabinetmaker whose Burbank shop is where the family first made wine as a hobby. His sons, the identical twins Ray and Ricci, learned the trade there, and Ray brought it to Santa Rosa, opening a second cabinet shop. In 1994, prompted by the curiosity of young Anthony, the family's bambino, and the grapes around their Sonoma County home, the family turned the hobby into a winery, starting with 150 cases of Old Vine Zinfandel. Today it is a bonded, full-production winery run by the family, with Breanna D'Argenzio-Tamburin as chief operating officer.
The wines come in small lots, fewer than 300 cases each, from family-owned vineyards in Sonoma and Mendocino counties, such as the DeNatale and Marcucci family vineyards, with a collection of Italian varieties alongside Sonoma County classics. Winemaker Sandro Tamburin, who grew up among the vineyards of Trieste and studied viticulture and fermentation science at UC Davis, has made the wines since 2014; with Breanna he also makes Anthesis, a sister label of natural wines that includes a skin-contact Falanghina orange wine, and the 2023 Anthesis Pinot Noir from Marcucci Vineyard won a platinum award. The winery also makes the Randy Rhoads Tribute Collection, inspired by co-founder Kathy Rhoads D'Argenzio, sister of Randy Rhoads, the guitarist of Quiet Riot and Ozzy Osbourne's band.
The tasting room is in Santa Rosa's Vintners Square, about five minutes from downtown, and the family is there almost every day. Guests choose a flight of Italian or Sonoma County wines, or pair wines with wood-fired pizza or gelato, and Cibo Rustico Pizzeria, the sister restaurant Ray opened, serves pizza and Italian dishes right in the tasting room. It is relaxed and family-friendly, with live music one Friday a month and an annual harvest party with a grape stomp.
$25 for the Casa flight and $35 for the Sonoma County or Italian flight. The Pizza & Wine Pairing is $55 and the Gelato & Wine Pairing $40. One tasting fee is waived with a purchase of two or more bottles.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Pickup at 11:50 a.m. from a Santa Rosa hotel such as Hotel E or Hotel La Rose.
Hotel E, a restored 1906 Beaux-Arts landmark on the square in downtown Santa Rosa, and Hotel La Rose, a 1907 hotel in Santa Rosa's historic Railroad Square, are each about 5 minutes from D'Argenzio Winery, which opens at noon on weekends. The day below fits a six-hour tour, and extra time can be added by the hour.
The Sonoma County or Italian flight ($35), about an hour.
Right in the tasting room. D'Argenzio's sister restaurant, opened by Ray D'Argenzio, serves wood-fired pizza and Italian dishes at the winery, so lunch needs no drive; the Pizza & Wine Pairing ($55) matches four pizzas to four wines. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 15 minutes away. Joe and Lucia Battaglini's family winery on Piner Road, where the Zinfandel and Petite Sirah vines that Italian immigrant Bartholomew Lagomarsino planted in 1885 still bear fruit, with a bocce court beside the Italian-style tasting room. The tasting of at least six wines is $25 for an hour; the VIP Tasting and Tour, hosted by a family member with barrel tastings and a walk through the winery and vineyard, is $75 for two hours. By appointment only, arranged by phone.
About 10 minutes away. Three brothers from Jackson, Mississippi, make Napa Valley Cabernet from their own block of Beckstoffer Georges III, the old Beaulieu Vineyard No. 3, alongside Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir, in a Santa Rosa winery where the tasting room and the cellar share one roof; winemaker Cole Krutz is happy to host guests for a tasting and tour. The fee is confirmed when we book. By appointment only.
Back in Santa Rosa by 4:40 p.m., less than five hours after pickup.
Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting. D'Argenzio opens at noon on Saturday and Sunday, so this day starts later; on a weekday we book D'Argenzio by appointment and can start earlier. Battaglini and Krutz are both by appointment, and we confirm their times when we book.
About $60 per person in tasting fees for D'Argenzio and Battaglini, paid directly to each winery (Battaglini's VIP tour is $75); the Krutz tasting fee is to be verified upon reservation.
Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
