A trip to wine country in 1992 changed Barry and Susan Collier's lives. They sold their home, Sue studied viticulture in Santa Rosa, and after walking dozens of properties she chose a hillside in Dry Creek Valley with a 30-foot waterfall and a Zinfandel block planted in 1982. By 1997 they were making wine as Collier Falls, and their first vintage earned 90 points from Wine Spectator. Justin and Lisa Cook bought the estate from the Colliers and took over in 2022, keeping the name, the vines and the mission.
The estate climbs to nearly 1,000 feet on the western hills of the valley, above the summer fog, in red volcanic Boomer Loam. More than seven acres of the original 1982 Zinfandel, planted on wide rows for dry farming, are among the oldest Zinfandel still producing in Dry Creek Valley, with Primitivo interplanted in 1997, plus Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah. Winemaker Mike Lucia, founder of Rootdown and Cole Ranch wineries, who has worked at Ridge, DeLoach, Goldeneye and Copain, uses native-yeast fermentations.
Production is under 500 cases a year, and most of it goes to the Falls Club, which ships twice a year; the wines are also sold on the winery's website. Collier Falls does not publish a tasting room, hours or a visiting program. Club members are invited to estate parties by the waterfall, and the winery takes questions about visits through its contact page, so we are glad to ask on your behalf.
Collier Falls does not offer public tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Join the Falls Club on the winery's website: two tiers of 6 or 12 bottles, shipped in spring and fall, with first access to new releases.
Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from a Healdsburg hotel such as Hotel Healdsburg or The Madrona.
Hotel Healdsburg, on the town plaza, and The Madrona, a 24-room hotel on a historic estate on Westside Road, are each about 5 minutes from DaVero. Since Collier Falls does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do. The day below fits a six-hour tour, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 5 minutes away. A 14-acre certified organic and Biodynamic farm a mile from the Healdsburg plaza, with olive trees brought from Tuscany in 1990, edible gardens, Italian grapes such as Sagrantino and a few pigs. The guided tasting of five Italian-varietal wines is $35 for 60 minutes, and the Sensory Journey, a walk through the farm and five wines with pairing bites, is $55. Open daily, Friday to Monday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesday to Thursday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; 21 and over for tastings.
About 20 minutes away. Pinot Noir and Zinfandel from two friends, Ben Papapietro and Bruce Perry, who began making wine in a San Francisco garage in the early 1980s; the winery is still owned by both families. The seated Signature Tasting of five current releases is 75 minutes ($35), and the Reserve Tasting of five reserve wines is $50, Friday to Sunday. Book ahead; open daily 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., for tasters 21 and over.
About 15 minutes away. Chef Dino Bugica's restaurant in a historic building on Geyserville Avenue, with Neapolitan-style pizza from a wood-burning oven, handmade pasta and house-cured salumi; the menu changes every day. Lunch is served daily from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 20 minutes away. Childhood friends Duncan Arnot Meyers and Nathan Lee Roberts started with one barrel in a basement in 2001 and now make single-vineyard wines from sites across Northern California. The tasting is by appointment only, booked through the winery, for 1 to 6 guests, hosted outdoors at the winery on Healdsburg Avenue ($45).
Back in Healdsburg by 3:50 p.m.
Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting. DaVero opens at 10 a.m. Friday to Monday, so this day works on those days; we allow 75 minutes there for the farm walk.
About $115 to $150 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
