About the Winery

Duncan Arnot Meyers and Nathan Lee Roberts grew up together in Napa Valley in the early 1980s, surrounded by vineyards; their families were chefs, coopers, teachers and attorneys rather than winemakers. After college Nathan joined his father as a cooper of oak barrels, and Duncan made wine at several well-known wineries in Napa and Sonoma. In 2001 they founded Arnot-Roberts in Healdsburg with one barrel of wine made in their basement.

The winery grew slowly, buying grapes from remarkable vineyards across Northern California, in Napa Valley, the Sonoma Coast, the Santa Cruz Mountains, Clear Lake and the Sierra Foothills, plus the Sta. Rita Hills. Single-vineyard wines are the core, with a few appellation bottlings. Some vineyards are old and dry-farmed, and all are farmed by growers the winery trusts. Caitlin Quinn, drawn here by her love of Syrah, has been assistant winemaker since 2015.

A visit is simple and personal: an appointment-only tasting at the winery on Healdsburg Avenue, at the south edge of town, for small groups. It is a chance to taste wines the winery otherwise sells through its mailing list and wine club.

Tasting Fees

$45 per person for the tasting appointment, for 1 to 6 guests.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

11:35 · Papapietro Perry Winery

About 20 minutes away. Pinot Noir and Zinfandel from two friends, Ben Papapietro and Bruce Perry, who began making wine in a San Francisco garage in the early 1980s; the winery is still owned by both families. The seated Signature Tasting of five current releases is 75 minutes ($35), and the Reserve Tasting of five reserve wines is $50, Friday to Sunday. The winery does not publish its tasting fee; we confirm it when we book. Reservations recommended; open daily 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

3:25 · Back to your hotel

Back in Healdsburg by 3:50 p.m.

Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting. Catelli's serves lunch Wednesday to Sunday, so this day works Wednesday to Sunday; on Monday or Tuesday we use Diavola next door instead. Arnot-Roberts appointment days vary, so we confirm the day when we book.

About $80 to $95 per person in tasting fees for Arnot-Roberts and Papapietro Perry, paid directly to each winery; Dutcher Crossing's tasting fee is to be verified upon reservation.

Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
