Chavez Family Cellars belongs to Carlos and Linda Chavez. Carlos arrived in Los Angeles from Mexico speaking no English, and later worked in health and safety compliance in the Central Valley, where he and Linda met. They began making wine as a hobby in their garage in 2000, and the couple also run a company that teaches safety training classes to vineyard and winery workers and managers.
After moving to Healdsburg they decided to go pro in 2005, renting space in a commercial winemaking facility and buying five tons of grapes. In 2025 NBC Bay Area found 44 French oak barrels bearing the family name, and filmed the couple in their Sonoma County vineyards, where their Cabernet Sauvignon grows. Two wines carry the names of their daughters: Elsa's Sauvignon Blanc and Carlin's Cabernet Sauvignon, the Carlin's Blend that has won the winery many of its awards.
There is no tasting room, and the winery does not receive visitors; wines are sold through its online store. The day below heads into Alexander Valley, just outside Healdsburg, for three Cabernet estates that do host.
Chavez Family Cellars does not offer tastings. On the day below, the Jordan Winery Tour & Tasting is $90, the Medlock Ames Signature Tasting is $45, and The Silver Oak Tasting is $65.
Tasting fees as of October 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
