Nate Belden, raised on a horse farm in Colorado, spent a year driving to Sonoma Mountain Road to look at this farm while working in finance, and he and his wife, Lauren, bought it in 2005. The property dates to the late 1800s and has been a dairy farm, a prune orchard and a rural retreat with a dance hall and stagecoach stop; its 1870s-era farm buildings still stand.
The vineyard is the old Steiner Vineyard, planted by David Steiner in the early 1970s and a source of acclaimed Pinot Noir from the early 1990s. The Beldens replanted most of it and now farm 18.5 acres at about 1,000 feet of Pinot Noir, Syrah, Grenache, Grüner Veltliner, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier. Producers including Carlisle, Three Sticks and Donelan buy fruit and name Steiner Vineyard on their labels; Justin Harmon makes the Belden Barns wines.
Farmers Jenny and Vince Trotter grow three and a half acres of vegetables and an orchard with more than 25 kinds of apples. Forbes called Belden Barns one of Sonoma County's most compelling new wineries of the last decade. A full-time public tasting room is under construction; for now, tastings are arranged by appointment.
Belden Barns does not publish a tasting fee; it is confirmed when the appointment is arranged.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
