Catch & Release was started in 2019 by Beno and Monica Stewart as an outlet for creative expression and a way to support growers who farm thoughtfully. The label says it makes serious wines without taking itself too seriously, and describes its wines as contemporary and handmade in Sonoma County.
The fruit comes from organically and biodynamically farmed vineyards of small growers across Northern California. In the cellar the Stewarts pick for freshness and balance, use native fermentations and keep intervention to a minimum. New wines arrive in spring and fall, along with small-production bottlings and library wines; the fall 2026 release includes Middle Child, After Sun, P2 and Lover Girl, at $30 to $35 a bottle.
Catch & Release sells online and through a membership of 6 or 12 bottles shipped each spring and fall. Its winery license is in Santa Rosa, but it has no tasting room and lists no visits, so it does not receive visitors. The day below stays in the Russian River Valley west of Santa Rosa, at three family estates that do host.
Catch & Release does not offer tastings. On the day below, expect about $95 per person: $30 at Balletto, $35 at DeLoach and $30 at Inman Family.
Tasting fees as of October 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
