Anne Moller-Racke came to Sonoma from Oberwesel, Germany, in 1981 and worked with the legendary winemaker André Tchelistcheff. She became vineyard manager for Buena Vista's Carneros vineyards in 1983 and vice president of vineyard operations by 1997, and she helped establish what is now the Carneros Wine Alliance and win recognition for Carneros as an appellation. In 1999 she bought a farmhouse property in southwest Sonoma with a historic Victorian house, now her home, and in 2001 she founded The Donum Estate, which she built over 18 years into one of California's leading Pinot Noir producers. Today Blue Farm, her own label, has all her attention, with proprietor Tim Mott and a small group of partners.
Blue Farm takes its name from the blue farmhouse, and the Anne Katherina Vineyard behind it, seven acres of Pinot Noir planted in 2001 in four blocks, was designed to make one complete wine. It now gives several: the Estate Pinot Noir, the Farmhouse (Roederer selection only) and Riverbed bottlings, and an Old Wente Chardonnay grafted in 2016. The label has grown to five vineyards in five Sonoma County appellations, including the tiny 1861 Vineyard on a plateau a thousand feet above the Sonoma Plaza, King Ridge in Fort Ross-Seaview and Gap's Crown. Fruit is hand-picked and hand-sorted, and most wines are 250 cases or fewer.
A visit here is personal. Blue Farm hosts private appointments at the farm, about 3 miles south of the historic Sonoma square, tasting through a curated selection of current Pinot Noir and Chardonnay a few steps from the vineyard they come from. It is a rare chance to taste with the family behind one of Carneros's most respected names, and Estate Director Hannah Gropman grew up on the property. Visits are Monday to Friday only and need at least a day's notice.
Tasting fees to be verified upon reservation. Blue Farm does not publish a tasting fee.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
