Reeve Wines' easygoing sister label, pouring obscure grapes and cool-climate Pinot Noir a block off the Healdsburg plaza, and a suggested six-hour day of tasting around it.

BloodRoot was conceived by Noah and Kelly Dorrance, the founders of Reeve Wines. The name means "life from death": the blood of the vine is nourished by the roots and the ground around each plant. Noah and director of winemaking Katy Wilson are known for serious, acclaimed wines, and BloodRoot is where they chase a different challenge: serious wine at value prices.
BloodRoot gives them room to experiment, with grape varieties most people have never tasted alongside cool-climate Pinot Noir and unexpected blends, and whites and rosés from crisp to rich and aromatic. The winery is a member of 1% for the Planet and gives back to its community, including through The Ramble, its annual music festival.
The tasting room is in downtown Healdsburg, about a block off the plaza, and it is relaxed by design: fresh wines, good vibes and, on some weekends, a DJ spinning vinyl. Guests choose a guided flight of whites or a mix, or simply share a few glasses at a table. It opens at 1 p.m., so it makes a lively last stop of the day.
Tasting fees to be verified upon reservation.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

About 20 minutes away. Kerith Overstreet left a career in medicine for UC Davis and her first harvest in 2008, and now makes about 1,000 cases a year, mostly single-vineyard Pinot Noir, some from her own Torrey Hill vineyard in the Russian River Valley. She hosts the five-wine Winemaker Tasting with local cheese herself ($85); the 60-minute Signature Tasting of three wines is $50. By reservation at the Grand Cru winery in Windsor, 2-guest minimum.
About 15 minutes away. Gregory Hayes's small winery has made Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and rosé since 2008 with consulting winemaker Kent Humphrey, from small growers such as the Sangiacomo and Windsor Oaks vineyards. Tours and tastings at the winery on Hopper Avenue are by appointment only; we confirm the fee when we book.
About 10 minutes away. Chef Mark Stark's modern tavern on Fourth Street in Santa Rosa, with plates to share from the American South, Asia and Jewish comfort food, and two patios; we reserve the table for you. Open daily from 11:30 a.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 30 minutes away. A guided flight in the tasting room a block off the plaza, about an hour; the fee is confirmed when we book.
