About the Winery

Beltane Ranch is a 105-acre agricultural preserve on the slopes above Highway 12 in Glen Ellen. Pioneer winemaker John Drummond planted its first vineyard in 1879, and in 1892 the ranch was bought by Mary Ellen Pleasant, the abolitionist and businesswoman who built the ranch house that still stands. The site is recognized by the National Park Service as a Network to Freedom site.

The family that runs it today is the fourth, fifth and sixth generation on the land. After decades of selling grapes to Napa and Sonoma vintners, they began making estate wines in 2009 from their 25-acre heritage vineyard, now regeneratively farmed. The wines include Sauvignon Blanc, Zinfandel, Carignan, Petite Sirah and Alicante Bouschet, made in small lots by winemaker Kevin Holt, and are mostly sold to club members and the mailing list.

The ranch has no tasting room. Visitors come on the Introductory Farm Tour, a private, two-and-a-half-hour visit: a 4x4 tour of the property, a stop to meet and feed the grazing animals, a vertical tasting in the heritage vineyard, a tasting of the estate portfolio, and a chef-prepared, wine-paired meal board under the oaks. We confirm current details when we book.

Tasting Fees

$150 per person plus a 20% service fee for the Introductory Farm Tour, about 2.5 hours, with tastings and a wine-paired meal board. An hourly labor charge may apply for parties of five or more. We confirm the current price when we book.

Tasting fees as of October 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Gaige House is in the village of Glen Ellen, about 10 minutes from the ranch, and Kenwood Inn & Spa is about 5 minutes up Highway 12. The day is planned around two wineries because the farm tour runs two and a half hours. Extra time can be added by the hour.

3:40 · Back to your hotel

Back by 4:00 p.m., six hours after pickup.

Beltane offers the farm tour only on select days when farm operations and staff allow, so we confirm the date with the ranch first and build the day around it. Laurel Glen's tasting room is open daily 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

About $225 per person in tasting fees for the two stops, including Beltane's 20% service fee, paid directly to each winery.
