Al and Dina Lopez married in 1978, moved to Northern California and built a publishing business, buying Lowrider Magazine in 1988 and growing it into the country's top automotive title before selling it in 1997. Looking for a quieter life, they moved to Sonoma County, and in 1999 Al planted Cabernet Sauvignon on their 40-acre estate and took viticulture classes at Santa Rosa Junior College. In 2012 their children, Francisco and Monica Lopez, turned the family's hobby into the Aldina label.
The estate vineyard sits atop a Mayacamas ridgeline in the Fountaingrove District, on volcanic soils above Santa Rosa, and Al planted the vines himself. Winemaker Belen Ceja, daughter of winemaker Armando Ceja and a Fresno State enology graduate, walks the vineyard with Al in early fall to taste the fruit before picking. The focus is estate Cabernet Sauvignon, and the 2016 vintage was named to Sonoma Magazine's Top 100 Wines of 2020.
The family pours its wines at Bacchus Landing, just north of Healdsburg, which makes this an easy first stop from the plaza. The Vertical Tasting Flight lines up four vintages of the estate Cabernet side by side, a good way to see how one mountain site changes from year to year, and the brunch pairs bagels and lox with a bottle of Rosé of Cabernet.
$25 for the Portfolio Tasting Flight of five wines. $40 for the Vertical Tasting Flight of four vintages of estate Cabernet Sauvignon (2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022). $37.50 per person for Brunch with Aldina, with a bottle of Rosé of Cabernet Sauvignon, served for two.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
