Mark and Gwen Marinozzi started Vitesse Vineyards to bring together two of Mark's favorite pastimes, cycling and wine. Training for bike races on the back roads of Napa and Sonoma, he found hillside vineyards on the climbs. Vitesse is French for speed, and changer de vitesse means shifting gears; the logo is a chainring, the part of a bike that turns pedaling into motion.
The grapes come from three mountain appellations on the Mayacamas side of the valley: Spring Mountain District, Diamond Mountain District and Mount Veeder. Miguel Caratachea has made the wine since the program began. The current flagship is the 2022 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, with vintages back to 2011, and the first Un Fixié Rosé won a silver medal at the San Francisco Chronicle wine competition.
Vitesse sells through its website. It has no tasting room and publishes no visiting program, so it does not receive visitors. Since the wine is built on mountain fruit, the day below heads up the Mayacamas side of the valley, from a ranch estate with caves and olive groves above St. Helena to a historic Diamond Mountain property.
Vitesse Vineyards does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Since Vitesse does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do, all on the mountain side of the valley. Long Meadow Ranch runs its estate visits at set times, so pickup is at 9:45; Meadowood and Southbridge Napa Valley are both in St. Helena. The day runs a little past six hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 15 minutes away. An organically farmed family ranch in the Mayacamas foothills above St. Helena. The private Mountain Estate Experience, with estate wines, the wine caves, an olive oil tasting and wide valley views, is $125, 90 minutes. By reservation, usually at 10 a.m. or 12:30 p.m.
About 15 minutes away. A husband-and-wife label from a leading vineyard manager and a barrel expert, poured with food and art at the Brasswood Estate north of St. Helena. The Classic Tasting is $75; we allow about an hour. By reservation at least 48 hours ahead, at 10 a.m., noon or 2 p.m.
About 8 minutes away. Lunch at Market, an American restaurant in a historic brick and stone building on Main Street in St. Helena, open for lunch Monday to Saturday from noon. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 15 minutes away. A historic 1879 Diamond Mountain estate with a 100-point Cabernet, poured at a private, seated tasting in the estate salon. The Signature Tasting with a seasonal cheese plate is $195, 60 to 75 minutes. By reservation only; we arrange it on your behalf.
Back in St. Helena by about 4:00 p.m., a little over six hours after pickup.
About $395 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
Long Meadow Ranch's Mountain Estate visits run at set times, usually 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., and Market serves lunch Monday to Saturday, so plan this day for Monday to Saturday. The Vineyardist confirms its time when we book.
