About the Winery

Mario and Mary Trinchero moved from New York City to Napa Valley in 1948 and bought an abandoned Prohibition-era winery in St. Helena, at a time when only about 15 wineries operated in the region. In 1972 their son Bob made the world's first White Zinfandel, just 220 cases. The family business grew into the country's second-largest family-owned winery.

In 2004 the family bought the Folie à Deux winery north of St. Helena to build a small, estate-focused winery, and third-generation family member Bob Torres led its design. The 22-acre property sits in the St. Helena AVA, with Cabernet Sauvignon in Mario's Vineyard and views of Spring Mountain and Howell Mountain. Head winemaker Landon Donley, formerly of Spottswoode, has made the wines since 2020.

Visits are seated and hosted. The Legacy Tasting Experience pours a flight of current releases in the Legacy Lounge or on the patio and runs about two hours. For white wine lovers, the Caviar & White Wine Experience compares vintages of the estate Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay with caviar from Thomas Keller's Regiis Ova.

Tasting Fees

$95 for the Legacy Tasting Experience, a hosted flight of current releases in the Legacy Lounge or on the patio, about 2 hours. $150 for the Caviar & White Wine Experience, 60 to 90 minutes.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
