Tor Kenward came to Napa Valley in 1975 and spent 26 years at Beringer, shaping its Private Reserve program and walking vineyards with André Tchelistcheff. In 2001 he and his wife Susan, a cookbook author whose books won two James Beard Awards, founded TOR to make small lots of single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. Tor still tastes every barrel and makes every final blend with winemaker Jeff Ames.
The fruit comes from some of Napa's most storied sites, among them Beckstoffer To Kalon, Beckstoffer Dr. Crane and Vine Hill Ranch, with Chardonnay from Hyde Vineyard in Carneros. TOR counts more than thirty 100-point scores. Its Magic wines, the dense Black Magic and the lifted Pure Magic, come from a few exceptional barrels in only the rarest vintages.
Visits are for TOR members and their guests. The Hospitality House tasting opens with Chardonnay and views across the valley to Mount St. Helena, then a TOR ambassador pours three limited single-vineyard Cabernets with artisanal cheese and charcuterie. Chef Tom cooks for the longer experiences, a four-course lunch in the private dining room or a family-style lunch under the olive trees.
$200 for TOR at Hospitality House, 75 minutes with cheese and charcuterie. $250 for TOR in The Olive Grove, a family-style lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. $275 for the TOR x Beckstoffer Experience, 90 minutes with small bites. $300 for TOR at The Table, a four-course lunch, 2 hours.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
