Napa · Napa Valley
A family label making small lots of Napa Valley wine since 2005, each bottle dressed in a painting by Napa artist Annie Bouthillette-Mercier, poured at Vintner's Collective in downtown Napa, and a suggested six-hour day of tasting around it.

Tela Wines has made small lots of 100% Napa Valley wine since 2005, from what the family calls carefully managed vineyards. Eric B. Mercier is the proprietor, through MHM Wine Company. The name comes from the Latin for the French toile, meaning a painting or a canvas, and that tells you what sets the label apart.
Every Tela bottling carries a painting by Annie Bouthillette-Mercier, a Napa Valley artist, so each vintage has its own artwork as well as its own wine. Releases run from 2005 to 2023, and the 2020 vintage is the one the winery currently features. Guests who like art tend to enjoy comparing the labels as much as the wines.
There is no Tela winery to visit. Tela is a member of Vintner's Collective, the shared tasting room for a small group of family wineries at 1245 Main Street, in an 1875 Italianate former saloon and brothel listed on the National Register of Historic Places. You can drop in at the bar or book a seated tasting upstairs; we ask for Tela's wines when we book.
At Vintner's Collective: $50 for The No. 1, five wines at the bar, about 45 minutes, no reservation needed. $100 for The No. 2, a seated reserve tasting upstairs, by appointment (cheese and charcuterie $25 extra). $250 for The No. 3, with sparkling wine, cheese, charcuterie and chocolates, by appointment.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Vintner's Collective opens at 11 a.m., so pickup is at 10:45. Milliken Creek Inn, on the Napa River off the Silverado Trail, is about 8 minutes from Main Street, and Hotel Indigo Napa Valley is a few minutes away. The day fits a six-hour tour, and extra time can be added by the hour.

About 10 minutes away. Lunch at Bistro Don Giovanni, an Italian restaurant among the vineyards on Howard Lane, a valley favorite for more than 30 years, open daily from 11:30 a.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 10 minutes away. Russell Bevan's bold Oakville Cabernet and coastal Pinot Noir, poured by appointment at HQ Winery on Hoffman Lane just south of Yountville. Tastings are $75 to $200 depending on the experience; we allow about 75 minutes.
About 12 minutes away. Race car driver Randy Lewis's Cabernet house, now pouring at a lavish new estate on the Silverado Trail with pairings from a Michelin-starred chef. The Legacy Tasting is $80; we allow about an hour. Open daily until 4:30 p.m.; reservations highly recommended.
Back by about 4:40 p.m., about six hours after pickup.
About $255 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting. The fourth stop is there if the day allows.
