About the Winery

Silverpoint Cellars belongs to Barry Murphy and Rosemary Dunbar, who both began their careers as lawyers. Rosemary became a painter, with work shown at Blue Mountain Gallery in New York, and Barry spent twenty years as a senior executive at American Express. They started Silverpoint in 2008 to make small quantities of carefully made wine, and they still run it themselves.

Head winemaker Don Van Staaveren has made the wines since the first vintage in 2008. He is known for the Cinq Cépages blends at Chateau St. Jean, whose 1996 vintage Wine Spectator named its No. 1 wine of 1999. The Napa Valley red blends valley fruit from Ithaca Vineyard on the Rutherford Bench with mountain fruit from the Antinori family's Antica estate, about 1,600 feet up; the 2021 made 103 cases.

There are just two wines: the Napa Valley red, released four years after harvest, and a Chardonnay from Rodger's Creek Vineyard in the Petaluma Gap, released two years after harvest. Both are announced each September and sold directly through an allocation list you join by email; they usually sell out by year end. Silverpoint has no tasting room and does not receive visitors.

Tasting Fees
