Midway through his Hall of Fame baseball career, Tom Seaver told his brother-in-law he would go back to California to raise grapes. Born in Fresno, where his father was in the raisin business, and a longtime wine collector, he kept his word: in 1997 he and his wife Nancy found 116 undeveloped acres on Diamond Mountain above Calistoga. Tom farmed the vines himself, clippers in his back pocket, until illness stopped him; he died in 2020.
The vineyard is just 2.6 acres on a south-facing slope in the Diamond Mountain District, planted to four Cabernet Sauvignon clones and making 400 to 600 cases a year. The first release, in spring 2008, was the 2005 GTS and the 2005 Nancy's Fancy (now NLS); in some years the clones are blended into a single GTS. Thomas Brown has made the wine since 2002, hired after the Seavers loved a bottle bearing his name.
Nancy Seaver owns the winery today, with daughter Anne as chief financial officer and Karen Seaver managing operations, and Hardin Vineyard Management farms the site. The wine is sold through a mailing list and waiting list, whose members get access to future allocations. The vineyard is a private family property, and Seaver Vineyards publishes no tours or tastings.
Seaver Vineyards does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Since Seaver Vineyards does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do. Harvest Inn and Alila Napa Valley, both at the south end of St. Helena, are about 15 minutes from Lokoya on Spring Mountain. The day runs a little over six hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 15 minutes away. Jackson Family Wines' Spring Mountain estate, where a host walks you to a balcony over the valley to taste four mountain Cabernet Sauvignons, from Mount Veeder, Howell Mountain, Spring Mountain and Diamond Mountain, side by side. The Mountain Experience is $250, about 90 minutes. By appointment, prepaid; parties of 2 to 6, 21 and over.
About 15 minutes away. A St. Helena estate on Highway 29 whose visit leads into marble-lined caves for tastes drawn straight from the barrel. The Cave Experience and Barrel Tasting is $120 plus tax; the length is not published, so we allow about 75 minutes. By reservation; closed Wednesday.
About 8 minutes away. Lunch at Rutherford Grill at the Rutherford crossroads, a sit-down grill open daily. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 12 minutes away. A family winery on Highway 29 north of St. Helena, pouring estate wines from a family with more than 120 years in the valley. The Napa Estate Tasting is $60 and the Napa Valley Cabernet Experience is $90, each about 60 to 90 minutes. Reservations recommended.
Back by about 4:10 p.m., a little over six hours after pickup.
About $430 to $460 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
Del Dotto is closed on Wednesdays; on a Wednesday we choose another cave estate. At Ballentine we book the $90 Napa Valley Cabernet Experience to suit the day.
