The Harlan family's secluded canyon estate on Oakville's southwestern ridge, open by appointment, and a suggested six-hour day around it.

Promontory is the Harlan family's estate on Oakville's southwestern ridge. H. William Harlan, founder of Harlan Estate, came upon the land in the early 1980s while hiking the ridge, and the family acquired it in 2008. The second generation, led by Will Harlan, now guides the estate, and its vintages run back to 2009.
The land sits in a secluded canyon crossed by two fault lines that roughly divide volcanic, sedimentary and metamorphic soils, across 500 feet of elevation. Less than ten percent of it is planted; the rest is forest and woodland. Morning fog and cooler air fill the narrow canyon most days, against the warmth of its rocky western exposure.
Unlike Harlan Estate, Promontory welcomes visitors by appointment, for an introduction to the wine and the land. Visits are arranged with the estate's concierge by phone or email, not online, and our chauffeurs handle that request for you.
Promontory does not publish its visit fee. Fees to be verified upon reservation: your chauffeur confirms the current fee when arranging your appointment.
Tasting fees as of October 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
