About the Winery

Laurie and Tom Poggi launched Poggi Wines in 2014 to show off their vineyard at Rosedale and Pickett roads in Calistoga, and to challenge the idea that a high-quality Napa Valley Cabernet has to carry a hefty price tag. They call themselves "unapologetically small," and when you contact the winery you talk directly with the family.

There are two wines. Twin Palms is a Bordeaux blend led by Cabernet Sauvignon, from the estate vineyard in the Calistoga AVA, planted in 1997 and named for the two palm trees at its edge; the 2014 earned 91 points from Wine Enthusiast. Diamond Mountain is 100 percent Cabernet Sauvignon from the Diamond Mountain District. Each runs about 70 to 90 cases a year.

Poggi is not open to the public, but the family asks visitors to let them know when they will be in Napa Valley, and they will find a way to connect. We reach out for you; the format is set with the Poggis, and we build the rest of the day around it. The vineyard is sustainably farmed, tended by hand and harvested at night.

Tasting Fees

Tasting fees to be verified upon reservation. Poggi does not publish a tasting fee or visit format.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

A Suggested Six-Hour Day

Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as Indian Springs or Cottage Grove Inn. The Poggis set the visit time, so the start may move once they confirm.

10:00 · Pickup at Indian Springs or Cottage Grove Inn

Indian Springs, the historic hot springs resort, and Cottage Grove Inn at the top of Lincoln Avenue are each about 8 minutes from the vineyard. If the family suggests a different time, we build the day around it. The day below fits a six-hour tour, and extra time can be added by the hour.

10:15 · Poggi Wines

A visit arranged directly with the Poggi family at their Rosedale Road vineyard. The format and any fee are not published, so we allow about an hour and confirm the details when the visit is set.

11:35 · Canard Vineyard

About 8 minutes away. A small Calistoga estate on Dunaweal Lane making hand-crafted wines since 1984 from dry-farmed, single-vineyard blocks. The Estate Tasting is a private, seated pour of five estate wines; current prices are shown when you reserve, and we allow about an hour and a quarter. By reservation only, four days a week; parties of 2 to 8.

1:00 · Lunch at Sam's Social Club

About 8 minutes away. Lunch at Sam's Social Club at Indian Springs in Calistoga, a sit-down restaurant named for town founder Samuel Brannan, serving lunch Monday through Friday and brunch on weekends. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

2:15 · Chateau Montelena

About 8 minutes away. The stone chateau whose 1973 Chardonnay won the 1976 Paris Tasting. A Taste of Montelena is offered daily, with walk-ins welcome ($65, about 45 minutes, 21 and over); the tasting room closes at 4 p.m.

3:15 · Back to your hotel

Back by about 3:30 p.m., within six hours of pickup.

About $65 per person at Chateau Montelena, plus Poggi's and Canard's fees, which are confirmed when we book; each paid directly to the winery.

The Poggis set the visit time, so the day is confirmed once they reply. Canard hosts four days a week; Sam's Social Club serves lunch on weekdays and brunch on weekends.
