About the Winery

Ren and Marilyn Harris met in high school in San Francisco in 1958 and moved to Napa Valley, where Marilyn's family had farmed for two generations. In 1975 they bought the 55-acre Oakville property that became Paradigm, grew grapes for other wineries for 16 years, and founded Paradigm Winery in 1991. Marilyn's grandfather, Joseph Pelissa, arrived from Liguria in 1902.

The vineyard lies on an alluvial fan in the heart of west Oakville, between the Mayacamas Mountains and the Yountville hills, with gravelly soils suited to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Paradigm makes wine only from its own fruit. Heidi Barrett was the founding winemaker and made every vintage through 2024; the vineyard was certified organic in 2021 and fish friendly in 2023.

This is a true small-family visit. Paradigm is run by a small team and hosts guests only by appointment, so visits are small and unhurried, centered on the family's estate wines and the people who farm them. Fernando Diaz, who started working for Ren and Marilyn in 1990, still manages the vineyard. Visits are by appointment or private request; we arrange it on your behalf.

Tasting Fees

Paradigm does not publish a tasting fee. The format and any fee are confirmed by the winery when the appointment is made.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
