About the Winery

Rick Mirer grew up in Indiana, played quarterback at Notre Dame and spent the second half of his NFL career with the 49ers and the Raiders before turning to wine as his second career. He founded Mirror Napa Valley in 2008, and the name carries the idea behind the wines: to "mirror" a carefully farmed vineyard and its terroir in the bottle.

The winemaker is Kirk Venge, born and raised in Rutherford, who learned in the family vineyard alongside his father, Nils Venge. The lineup centers on Cabernet Sauvignon, recently from Calistoga, with small lots of Chardonnay (just four barrels of the 2024), Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc. Mirror also works with the Mirer Family Foundation, which supports children's health and education and is nearing $1 million in scholarship aid and endowment.

Mirror has no public tasting room. The winery invites tasting inquiries by email, and the time and place are set when the request is accepted. We send the request for you and plan the rest of the day around it, with seated mountain tastings on Spring Mountain and Howell Mountain to round out a day of Napa Cabernet.

Tasting Fees

Tasting fees to be verified upon reservation. Mirror does not publish a tasting fee; it is confirmed when the tasting is arranged.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

A Suggested Six-Hour Day

Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from a central hotel such as Alila Napa Valley or Harvest Inn. Mirror sets the tasting time and place when it accepts the request, so the start time may move.

10:00 · Pickup at Alila Napa Valley or Harvest Inn

Both are central to the valley: Alila Napa Valley, a Hyatt resort in downtown St. Helena, and Harvest Inn, a vineyard-side resort at the south end of town. Once Mirror confirms where it will host you, we set the pickup time to match. The day below runs about six and a half hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.

10:15 · Mirror Napa Valley

A private tasting of Mirror's wines, arranged by request. The winery confirms the place, time and any fee; we allow about an hour.

11:40 · Pride Mountain Vineyards

About 25 minutes away. A family estate at the top of Spring Mountain that straddles the Napa and Sonoma county line, with a walk through the caves as part of every visit. The Reserve Experience adds a seated tasting of limited wines to the cave walk; $75 and about 90 minutes. By appointment, Wednesday to Monday (closed Tuesday).

1:35 · Lunch at Market

About 25 minutes away. Lunch at Market, an American restaurant in a historic brick and stone building on Main Street in St. Helena, open for lunch Monday to Saturday from noon. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

2:55 · Retro Cellars

About 20 minutes away. The Dunn family's second-generation label, poured at Dunn Vineyards on Howell Mountain with a walk through the vineyards and caves, then a tasting of Retro's Rhone-style wines alongside Dunn Cabernet. $125; we plan about 90 minutes. By appointment.

4:25 · Back to your hotel

Back by about 4:45 p.m., about six and three-quarter hours after pickup.

About $200 per person in tasting fees for Pride Mountain and Retro Cellars, plus Mirror's fee, which is confirmed when the tasting is arranged. Fees are paid directly to each winery.

Mirror sets the place and time of its tasting when it accepts the request, so drive times from that stop may change. Pride Mountain is closed Tuesdays and Market serves lunch Monday to Saturday, so plan this day for Monday or Wednesday to Saturday. Back around 4:45 p.m.

Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
