About the Winery

L'Envolée (LON-vo-lay, French for "to take flight") belongs to Caitlin and Quentin Lhommeau, who met during the 2017 harvest in New Zealand. Caitlin, raised in California's San Joaquin Valley, switched from medicine to winemaking, came to Napa in 2016 and is director of winemaking for Russell Bevan's consulting portfolio. Quentin, from the Loire Valley, trained in Tours, worked in Bordeaux, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Alsace and Cognac, and works with the Fayard Wines team.

They make the wine on evenings and weekends, without investors, doing everything from the winemaking to the label design to packing orders. The current releases are a 2024 Chenin Blanc from Carneros, fermented mostly in stainless steel with some neutral French oak, and a 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon from the Oakville AVA, 95% Cabernet with 5% Merlot.

L'Envolée sells directly through its website and mailing list and has no tasting room, so it does not receive visitors. The day below follows its two vineyards, with stops in Oakville and Carneros, plus Russell Bevan's Addax at HQ Winery, where Caitlin's day job ties in.

Tasting Fees

A Suggested Six-Hour Day

Pickup at 9:40 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as Andaz Napa or Archer Hotel Napa.

9:40 · Pickup at Andaz Napa or Archer Hotel Napa

Since L'Envolée does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do, following its vineyards from Oakville to Carneros. Ghost Block's first tasting is at 10 a.m., about 20 minutes from downtown Napa, so pickup is a little early. The day fits a six-hour tour, and extra time can be added by the hour.

10:00 · Ghost Block Estate Wines

About 20 minutes away. The Pelissa family, farming in Napa Valley since 1903, pours its organically farmed Oakville and Yountville wines at the historic Napa Wine Company in Oakville. The Pelissa Vineyard Tour by open-air golf cart is $95; the seated Taste of Oakville and Yountville is $55, about 90 minutes. By reservation, with tastings at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

11:45 · Addax Wines

About 10 minutes away. Russell Bevan's bold Oakville Cabernet and coastal Pinot Noir, poured at HQ Winery, a working winery on Hoffman Lane just south of Yountville. Tastings are $75 to $200 depending on the experience; we plan about 75 minutes. By appointment, daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

1:15 · Lunch at Angèle

About 15 minutes away. Lunch at Angèle, a French brasserie on the Napa River in downtown Napa, serving lunch daily from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

2:40 · Cuvaison

About 15 minutes away. A Los Carneros winery set on its Tai Estate Vineyard, pouring cool-climate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The seated Estate Tasting is $60 for about an hour. By advance reservation, open daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; up to six guests, all 21 or older.

3:45 · Back to your hotel

Back by about 4:00 p.m., about six and a quarter hours after pickup.

About $190 to $355 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.

Ghost Block seats guests at set times (10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.), so the day starts there. The day runs a little past six hours; extra time is billed by the hour. Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting.

Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
