KIND began in New England, where David and Wendy Yorgensen's love of wine grew into a calling. David, then a custom home builder in Vermont, read everything he could find on growing grapes and making wine, and in 2004 the couple moved to Napa Valley, where an internship started his winemaking. KIND's first wines came from the 2005 vintage, and David is co-proprietor and winemaker today.
KIND owns no vineyards. David works with small growers on chosen sites, including Henry Brothers Ranch on Howell Mountain, Lewelling Ranch in St. Helena, Diamond Mountain and Lampyridae Vineyard on Mount Veeder for Syrah. The winery's accolades page lists 99 points from Robert Parker for its 2012 and 2013 Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, and David's approach is to let each wine be itself.
Visits are small and personal. KIND offers limited tasting experiences every Sunday at its St. Helena location, where one of the proprietors leads a 90-minute tour of the facility, tells the story behind KIND and pours a private tasting of several wines. Appointments are by reservation only, so we book ahead and build the rest of the Sunday around it.
Tasting fees to be verified upon reservation. KIND does not publish a fee for its 90-minute Sunday tour and tasting; members taste free.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
