About the Winery

Joel Gott is a fourth-generation California vintner who grew up in the Sierra Foothills, where his parents ran Montevina Winery. Sarah Gott studied fermentation science at UC Davis and became winemaker at Joseph Phelps Vineyards. They started Joel Gott Wines in 1996 with an Amador County Zinfandel, married in 1997, and in 1999 Joel co-founded Gott's Roadside in St. Helena.

The idea is balanced, food-friendly wine at an accessible price, made from fruit chosen across California, Oregon and Washington. Best known are the 815 Cabernet Sauvignon, the California Chardonnay and the Oregon Pinot Noir. Since 2009 the Gotts have partnered with Trinchero Family Estates, which handles distribution and sales, while the company remains independent; the wines are made at its Hoffman Lane winery in Yountville.

Joel Gott wines are easy to find at wine shops, grocers and restaurants across the country, and through the winery's own website. The company publishes no tasting room or visiting program, so it does not receive visitors. For a taste of the Gott family's hospitality, lunch at Gott's Roadside is built into the day below.
