Hayfork is the label of Haley Wight and Erik Dodd, a husband and wife, winemaker and farmer team in St. Helena. Haley's great-great-great-grandparents, John and Elvy Lewelling, began farming the family ranch in St. Helena in 1864, and the family has farmed that land for six generations, growing walnuts, prunes, pears and grapes over the years. The couple call Hayfork "woman-made and farmer-owned."
The point of the label is farming. Hayfork makes under 1,000 cases a year, from family-owned heritage vineyards: the Lewelling Ranch in the St. Helena AVA, the Kenefick Ranch and Shypoke Vineyard in Calistoga, and the Johnson Family Ranch in Redwood Valley. Haley's approach in the cellar is less is more: a restrained use of new oak and wines left to evolve naturally, with minimal intervention.
There is no public tasting room. Hayfork offers private tastings by appointment at its tasting room on Vidovich Avenue in St. Helena, the same address the family's Lewelling Vineyards uses, and reservations are made by email with Haley. Visits are small and personal, so we send the request for you and build the rest of the day around the time she confirms.
Tasting fees to be verified upon reservation. Hayfork does not publish a tasting fee; it is confirmed when the appointment is made.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Good to Know
Appointments depend on Haley's schedule, so ask ahead. Ages, group size and pet policy are not published; we confirm them when the visit is set. Hayfork pours at occasional events, such as its post-harvest party in October, and runs a mailing list and membership.
Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as Southbridge Napa Valley or Harvest Inn. Hayfork sets appointment times by email, so the start time may move once the visit is confirmed.
Both are a few minutes from the tasting room: Southbridge Napa Valley, on Main Street at the south end of St. Helena, is about 5 minutes away, and Harvest Inn, a vineyard-side resort just south of town, is about 5 minutes away. If Hayfork offers a different time, we build the day around it. The day below runs a little over six hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
A private tasting with Haley at the Vidovich Avenue tasting room, by appointment. Hayfork does not publish a length of visit or fee, so we allow about an hour and confirm the details when the appointment is set.
About 20 minutes away. A small family winery near the top of Howell Mountain, where the tasting is poured in the vineyard under an old black walnut tree. The Private Wine Tasting with a vineyard and winery walk is $65, about 75 minutes (waived with a $150 purchase). By appointment only; closed Sundays.
About 12 minutes away. Lunch at Forum, the main restaurant at Meadowood at the foot of Howell Mountain, with seasonal dishes drawn from the Meadowood farm. Lunch is served on weekdays, with brunch on weekends. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 15 minutes away. Rutherford Cabernet poured in the estate gardens or the historic barn where the winery opened in 1979, beneath a grove of sequoia trees. The Single Vineyard Experience is $75 ($100 with paired bites), about 90 minutes. Reservations required; closed Tuesdays.
Back by about 4:10 p.m., a little over six hours after pickup.
About $140 per person in tasting fees for Red Thread and Sequoia Grove, plus Hayfork's fee, which is confirmed when the appointment is made. Fees are paid directly to each winery.
Hayfork confirms its appointment time by email, so the day is set once Haley replies. Red Thread is closed Sundays and Sequoia Grove is closed Tuesdays, so plan this day for Monday or Wednesday to Saturday. The day runs a little over six hours, back around 4:10 p.m.
