Grounded Wine Co. is the label of Josh Phelps, a Napa native raised in a winemaking family. He learned wine through college, selling wine, working harvests and making wine with his father, Chris Phelps, and he started Grounded to build on that family legacy while connecting his own generation to wine country.
Grounded makes wine from sustainable vineyards across California and Washington, working with trusted farmers and childhood friends. The range includes Grounded by Josh Phelps, a Sauvignon Blanc under the same name, Space Age Rosé, Landform, Steady State and Public Radio. In 2022 Wine Spectator called Grounded a relatively new name among reliable sources for quality Napa Cabernet.
Grounded sells online, through retailers listed on its Find Wines page and through its mailing list. Its website lists an Oak Avenue address in St. Helena, but its visit page is not active and there is no tasting room. Since Grounded does not host, the day below takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do.
Grounded Wine Co. does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Since Grounded Wine Co. does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do. Harvest Inn and Southbridge Napa Valley, both at the south end of St. Helena, are each about 8 minutes from the first stop. The day runs about seven hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 8 minutes away. A Mayacamas foothill estate first planted in 1885, now owned by the family behind Château Smith Haut Lafitte, with a long horseshoe cellar cut into the mountain. The Private Estate Experience is $175, a hosted tour of the winery and cellar and a tasting of the estate's three wines. By reservation only, requested ahead through the winery.
About 8 minutes away. Lunch at Market, an American restaurant in a historic brick and stone building on Main Street in St. Helena, open for lunch Monday to Saturday from noon. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 12 minutes away. A Howell Mountain vineyard first planted in the 1870s, poured at the Heitz Cellar Home Ranch on Taplin Road. Ink Grade: The Study of Mountain Terroir is $150 plus tax, 90 minutes to 2 hours, with a Stone Cellar tour and five wines. By appointment, seven days a week, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
About 15 minutes away. Coombsville Cabernet from the Huneeus family, poured in Faust Haus, a restored 19th-century Victorian painted matte black, just north of St. Helena. Act I, the estate wines with snacks from the Haus kitchen, is $75, 60 to 90 minutes. Open Thursday to Monday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., by reservation.
Back by about 5:00 p.m., about seven hours after pickup.
About $400 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
Faust is open Thursday to Monday and Market serves lunch Monday to Saturday, so this day works Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Monday. Back by about 5:00 p.m.
