Faust is one of the wines of the Huneeus family, who founded the Quintessa estate in Rutherford in 1990. Agustin Huneeus spent more than 50 years in the wine business, from Concha y Toro in Chile to Franciscan Estates in Napa Valley, before building a family portfolio of estates that today includes Quintessa, Flowers and Faust.
The grapes come from the Faust Estate Vineyard in Coombsville, at the southern end of Napa Valley. The vineyard sits in a caldera left by an ancient volcano, and the winery says it runs about 10 degrees cooler in the growing season than up-valley sites. Estate Director Jen Beloz and Winemaker David Jelinek make the flagship Cabernet, The Pact, along with Faust Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah.
You taste at Faust Haus, a restored 19th-century Victorian painted matte black, just north of St. Helena. The winery describes it as a former farmhouse and Prohibition-era cellar. Tastings are hosted in the historic rooms or out in the gardens, always with food from the Haus kitchen, and work by the artisans the winery calls Friends of Faust is on display through the year.
$75 for Act I, an introduction to the estate wines with curated snacks, 60 to 90 minutes. $125 for Act II, with library and limited bottlings and cheese and charcuterie, 60 to 90 minutes. $175 for Act III, a private guided visit with a property tour and a vertical of The Pact, 90 to 120 minutes.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
