In 1980 Rob Greer, a former Navy nuclear engineer turned San Francisco financier, and his colleague Dick Fredericks bought "The Farm" on Manley Lane in Rutherford as a weekend retreat. It came with a 1920s bungalow, a 1912 barn and two acres of Petite Sirah. Rob and his wife, Cyd, married there in 1987 and moved to St. Helena with their children in 1996.
In 2003 neighbor Aaron Pott, then winemaker at St. Clement, began buying the fruit and soon told Rob it was too good to blend away. The vineyard was replanted to Cabernet Sauvignon in 2005, with another acre added in 2011, and Pott has made every vintage since the first in 2007. The site sits in the Rutherford AVA beside Inglenook, near Staglin, Scarecrow and Bella Oaks, and Robert Parker's Wine Advocate gave the 2018 98 points.
Greer makes one wine, a 100% estate Cabernet, about 450 cases in an average year. It is sold to members through the winery's online member site. The website lists only email contacts and publishes no tasting program, so Greer does not host public visits. The day below takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do.
Greer does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
