Fe, pronounced "fee," is the chemical symbol for iron, which runs through the estate's red volcanic Aiken soil. Proprietors Jon and Joanne Goldstein, a native Californian and a Chicagoan whose courtship included many trips to Napa Valley, built the vineyard as a place for friends and family to gather. Seven years of careful vineyard work went into the first vintage.
Six densely planted blocks sit on an elevated bench in the narrowest stretch of the valley, on the lower slope of the Mayacamas, with nearly two thousand acres of parkland and redwoods on two sides; the address falls in the St. Helena AVA. Aaron Pott, once winemaker at Château Troplong Mondot, makes two wines: Fe Cabernet Sauvignon and 26, a blend named for iron's atomic number. Critics have given the 2019 and 2021 Fe Cabernet scores up to 100 points.
The wines are sold through Fe's mailing list and website, and the winery answers collector, trade and media questions by email. Fe has no tasting room and publishes no way to visit, so the estate does not receive visitors. The day below takes you to three estates nearby that do, two of them on Spring Mountain.
Fe does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
