Donley Estate

About the Winery

Donley Estate was founded in 2016 with the planting of its estate Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard on Howell Mountain, high above the Napa Valley floor. The family later built a small winery on the property so it could control every step from vine to bottle.

There are two wines: the estate Cabernet Sauvignon and a Sauvignon Blanc. The family farms the vineyard itself and makes the wines by hand, and describes the site's cool mountain air, long sunsets and distinct growing season. The winery's motto is to "elevate the moment", wines meant for weeknight dinners as much as celebrations.

There is no tasting room, and the website lists no tastings, address or shop, only a contact page. The day below stays on Howell Mountain for two estate visits, then drops down to St. Helena for lunch and a historic family winery.

Tasting Fees

Donley Estate does not offer tastings.

On the day below, CADE's Current Release Tasting is $100, O'Shaughnessy's Winery Tour and Tasting is $50, and Charles Krug's Estate Tasting is $50.

Tasting fees as of October 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

A Suggested Six-Hour Day

Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from a St. Helena hotel such as Meadowood or Harvest Inn.

10:00 · Pickup at Meadowood or Harvest Inn

Since Donley Estate does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do. Meadowood and Harvest Inn are both in St. Helena, about 20 to 30 minutes from the first stop up Howell Mountain. The day runs about six hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.

10:30 · CADE Estate Winery

About 20 to 30 minutes away. An organically farmed Howell Mountain estate from the PlumpJack family of wineries. The Current Release Tasting of Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon is $100, about an hour, the same two varieties Donley makes. Daily by prepaid appointment.

11:45 · O'Shaughnessy Estate Winery

About 10 minutes away. A Howell Mountain estate with a wine cave dug into the mountain. The Winery Tour and Tasting is $50, a cave and winery tour with a seated tasting of four wines, about 75 minutes. By appointment; it books several weeks out.

1:25 · Lunch at The Charter Oak

About 25 minutes away. Lunch in St. Helena at The Charter Oak, Christopher and Martina Kostow's family-style New American restaurant. We confirm hours when we book. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

2:45 · Charles Krug Winery

About 5 minutes away. The Mondavi family's historic estate at the north end of St. Helena. The seated Estate Tasting in the Redwood Cellar is $50; we plan about an hour. Daily by appointment.

3:45 · Back to your hotel

Back by about 4:00 p.m., about six hours after pickup.

About $200 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.

All three wineries host daily by appointment. O'Shaughnessy books several weeks ahead, so reserve early; Howell Mountain roads are winding, and we allow for that in the timing.

Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
