Di Costanzo is the work of two people, Massimo and Erin Di Costanzo, whose name is on every bottle: no interns, no silent partners. Massimo, raised in an Italian household in Berkeley and trained at UC Davis, worked harvests at Tignanello and in South Africa and Argentina, then made wine at OVID, Screaming Eagle and with Atelier Melka. Erin, born in Alaska, was a sommelier in New York and wine director at PRESS in St. Helena.
Each Di Costanzo Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a single heritage vineyard on volcanic soil. The first, from the Farella Vineyard in Coombsville, debuted with the 2010 vintage; Caldwell in Coombsville and Montecillo and Charlie Smith on Moon Mountain followed. The winemaking is hands-off: organic yeast, low sulfur and little or no fining or filtration. Vinous's Antonio Galloni wrote that the couple make "some of the most striking Cabernets in Napa Valley."
New releases go to the mailing list twice a year, in late winter and early fall. Mailing list members are welcome for private tastings by appointment in St. Helena: you send your name, party size and preferred day, and Erin, who answers every email, sets it up. We help you join the list and make the request, and the meeting place is confirmed with the appointment.
Tasting fees to be verified upon reservation. Di Costanzo does not publish a fee for member tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as Meadowood or Southbridge Napa Valley. Di Costanzo sets tasting times on request, so the start time may move once the winery confirms.
Both are in St. Helena, a few minutes from town: Meadowood, the resort in its own wooded valley off the Silverado Trail, and Southbridge Napa Valley at the south end of Main Street. The day below runs about seven hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
A private tasting with the Di Costanzos, by appointment. No length is published, so we allow about an hour and a quarter.
About 25 minutes away, up Howell Mountain. Mike and Kara Dunn's small-lot Rhone wines, poured on a vineyard and cave visit at Dunn Vineyards on Howell Mountain, with Dunn's Cabernets in the lineup. $125 per person; we plan about 90 minutes. Weekdays only, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., by reservation.
About 25 minutes away. Lunch at Farmstead at Long Meadow Ranch at the south end of St. Helena, a farm-to-table restaurant open daily for lunch from 11:30 a.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 10 minutes away. A St. Helena estate north of town whose first Cabernet vines, planted in 1989, came from Grace Family cuttings. The Signature Experience opens with a CRU wine, tours the winery and caves, then pours current releases with a seasonal, locally sourced spread. $110, about 90 minutes, by appointment.
Back in St. Helena by about 5:00 p.m.
About $235 per person in tasting fees for Retro Cellars and Vineyard 29, plus Di Costanzo's fee, which is confirmed with the appointment; each paid directly to the winery.
Retro Cellars hosts on weekdays only, so this is a Monday to Friday day; on weekends we swap in another mountain estate. Di Costanzo sets its times on request, and the day runs about seven hours.
