Single-varietal, single-vineyard wines from sommelier-turned-vintner Michael Kennedy, tasted by appointment with the Fraîche Wine Group's estate host, and a suggested six-hour day of tasting around it.

Michael Kennedy was head sommelier for Blue by Eric Ripert at the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman, before starting Component with a 2013 Petit Verdot, just two barrels. Forbes named him to its 30 Under 30 list in 2017 for the idea. Component is now part of Fraîche Wine Group, the family of wineries Kennedy built with winemaker Marc Gagnon, alongside Gagnon-Kennedy Vineyards and SOM Wines.
The idea is to bottle the parts of a great blend on their own. Component makes 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc from Pritchard Hill growers, Sémillon from Sonoma's Monte Rosso Vineyard, planted on Moon Mountain in 1886, and Sauvignon Blanc from Dry Creek Valley. A Bordeaux Cabernet Franc comes from a family vineyard on the St. Émilion plateau, made by the team at Château Lynch-Bages.
Tastings are by appointment, booked by email with the group's director of hospitality, and hosted by estate host Mark Brooks at the Cheese Shed. They take a deep dive into the Napa Valley and Bordeaux wines and pour others from the Fraîche family. Fees and the tasting address are not published, so we confirm both when we book. The wines are sold through an allocation list and the Component Wine Club.
Tasting fees to be verified upon reservation.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as Westin Verasa Napa or The Meritage Resort.
Component confirms its tasting place when the appointment is made, so we set the route once it is booked; the day below assumes a Napa-area tasting. Westin Verasa Napa is in the Oxbow District downtown, and The Meritage Resort is at the south end of Napa. The day fits about six hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
A hosted tasting at the Cheese Shed, by appointment. The fee and length are confirmed when we book; we plan about 75 minutes.
About 15 minutes away, depending on the tasting location. A women-owned urban winery minutes from downtown Napa, with a stylish tasting room, a zen patio and single-vineyard wines by Kirk Venge. The 11:11 Experience is $75, about 75 minutes. Open daily 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., by appointment.
About 12 minutes away. Lunch at Mustards Grill on Highway 29 just north of Yountville, a Napa Valley favorite for more than 40 years, open daily for lunch. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 18 minutes away. A private tasting salon upstairs in a historic downtown Napa building, pouring Beckstoffer and other pedigreed-vineyard Cabernets among the barrels. Into the Cellar, a seated tasting with food pairings for up to 8 guests, is $150; we allow about 90 minutes. By reservation; hours are set when you book.
Back by about 4:15 p.m., a little over six hours after pickup.
About $225 per person in tasting fees for Eleven Eleven and Simon Family, paid directly to each winery; the Component fee is confirmed when we book.
Component's tasting address and fee are confirmed when booking, and Simon Family sets its hours when you book, so we confirm both before the day and adjust the route if needed.
