Castiel Estate

About the Winery

Castiel Estate belongs to Dave and Kathleen, who met at Freemark Abbey in the early 1990s, where Kathleen was a wine educator. Their 88-acre property sits in the Howell Mountain AVA, with springs, forest, natural caves and a lookout they call Aldo's Apex. The first vintage was 2014.

The Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon is grown on the neighboring vineyard, a west-facing site farmed by viticulturist Jim Barbour, and made by winemaker Celia Welch. Maayan Koschitzky, formerly of Screaming Eagle and Dalla Valle, joined the team for a Napa Valley Cabernet and a St. Helena Sauvignon Blanc. The 2023 Napa Valley Cabernet was 175 cases.

Guests do not taste on the mountain. Director of Hospitality Holly Wyatt hosts a private tasting of all current releases at Eleven Eleven Winery, the Napa crush facility where the wines are made, and existing clients may also taste library selections. Tastings are requested by email.

Tasting Fees

Castiel does not publish a tasting fee. It is confirmed when the tasting is arranged.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
