Laurie and Tom Shelton bought a small vineyard beside Selby Creek and the Silverado Trail, north of St. Helena, in 2000. Tom was a longtime wine industry leader who served as president and CEO of Joseph Phelps Vineyards. After he died in 2008, Laurie decided to make a wine from the vineyard in his memory. The first vintage of CAMi was made in 2013 and released in July 2016.
CAMi is very small. About two acres of estate Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot go into a Bordeaux-style red blend and single-variety bottlings, and the wines are highly allocated. The Merlot was planted in 1996 from the Three Palms Vineyard clone, and the Cabernet was replanted in 2006. The vines are cane-pruned and farmed without herbicides or synthetic fertilizers. French-born Julien Fayard, who worked at Lafite Rothschild and Smith Haut Lafitte, makes the wine.
Laurie Shelton is also a painter, and the tasting room on Lincoln Avenue doubles as an art gallery with contemporary work she curates. Tastings are seated and guided by a wine specialist, either inside among the current exhibit or at a sidewalk table. Guests choose two or four wines and can add a food pairing. It is an easy, relaxed first stop in the middle of town.
$30 for the CAMi Duo Tasting (two wines) and $50 for the CAMi Estate Tasting (four wines), both seated and guided. A wine and food pairing can be added to either for $25. Private tastings for 10 to 24 guests are arranged through the winery.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Tastings are seated and by appointment. Private tastings for 10 to 24 guests close the gallery to other visitors and include a 10% discount on CAMi wines. Outdoor sidewalk tables are available.
Pickup at 10:45 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as Solage or Indian Springs Calistoga.
CAMi opens at 11 a.m., so pickup is at 10:45 rather than 10:00. Solage, an Auberge resort with mineral pools on the Silverado Trail, and Indian Springs Calistoga, a historic hot springs resort on Lincoln Avenue, are each about 5 minutes from the tasting room. The day below fits a six-hour tour, and extra time can be added by the hour.
The CAMi Estate Tasting of four wines ($50), seated in the gallery or at a sidewalk table. The two-wine Duo Tasting ($30) is a lighter option, and a food pairing can be added for $25. Allow about an hour.
About 7 minutes away. An estate on Tubbs Lane, founded by Mark Carter and Nils Venge, with a patio that looks out toward Old Faithful Geyser. Tastings are $35, waived with the purchase of two bottles. By reservation; 21 and over to taste.
About 8 minutes away. Lunch at Solbar, the restaurant at Solage, with a large patio beside the pool. Lunch is served Monday to Saturday and brunch on Sunday, both until 2:45 p.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 5 minutes away. A winery set in a restored 1930s gas station, pouring small-lot, one-off blends from unusual varieties and vineyards. The Lubrication Tasting of four wines is $40 and lasts 50 to 65 minutes. By reservation.
Back by 4:45 p.m., six hours after pickup.
Adds about an hour. A family winery pouring on a garden patio at the west end of Lincoln Avenue, a short walk from CAMi. Walk-ins are available when space allows for parties under 6. Tastings are $30, waived with the purchase of two bottles; last tasting at 5 p.m.
About $105 to $125 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
CAMi and Envy Wines are both closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, so this day works Thursday through Monday. On Thursday, Tank Garage's last tasting starts at 4 p.m.
