About the Winery
Tank Garage Winery was founded in 2014 by James Harder and Jim Regusci, and James and Colleen Harder own it today. The tasting room is a restored 1930s gas station on Foothill Boulevard, the main road through Calistoga, and in 2025 the Harders bought the building.
The idea is simple: small-lot wines from unusual varieties and rare vineyards, each made only once. Releases range from rosé and skin-contact whites to pét-nat and bold reds, with labels and a room steeped in motor culture, vintage California and rock and roll.
The winery opened a second filling station in Paso Robles in 2024. In Calistoga it is a fun, fast-moving stop that suits curious wine lovers, and there is even a tasting for families.
Tasting Fees
$40 for the Lubrication Tasting of four wines, 50 to 65 minutes, waived with a $125 purchase. $40 for the Family Tasting and $75 for the large group tasting for 7 to 8 guests.

Standard bookings are for 1 to 6 guests, with 7 to 8 in the back room. The Lubrication Tasting is 21 and over; the Family Tasting welcomes supervised guests under 21. No strollers and no outside food. Reservations are held for 15 minutes.

The Lubrication Tasting, 50 to 65 minutes ($40). Tank Garage opens at 10 on weekends. On weekdays it opens at 11, so your chauffeur starts the day at a nearby winery that opens earlier.

About 5 minutes away. A fourth-generation family winery making small lots in a rustic, old-world style. The estate tasting is $35, 60 to 90 minutes, refunded with a two-bottle purchase. By reservation; no guests under 21 on Saturdays.

Adds about an hour. A small tasting room on Lincoln Avenue in downtown Calistoga. Walk-ins are welcome for parties under 6; open from noon, with the last tasting at 5 p.m. Tastings are $30, waived with the purchase of two bottles.
