About the Winery

Bragg Vineyards is a boutique family winery that says it has handcrafted estate Cabernet Sauvignon for over 30 years. Before it became a bonded winery in 2008, the Bragg family sold its grapes to wineries such as Chateau Montelena and Von Strasser. Today it makes only about 150 cases a year, all 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the vineyard work is still done with a 1960 Ford F-350 flatbed the family calls its work horse.

The fruit comes from two vineyards on the upper Napa Valley floor in Calistoga, between the Napa River and Cyrus Creek, which meet just south of the property and surround it on three sides with gravelly, well-drained alluvial soil. Mario's Vineyard, first planted in 1983, makes the bolder wine; it was replanted in 2014 and 2015. Padre's Vineyard, also first planted in 1983 and replanted in 2024, gives a more elegant, delicate Cabernet. The wines age two to three years in French or Hungarian oak, about a quarter of it new, and then rest in bottle before release.

Bragg sells its wine through an Allocation Club that ships two bottles twice a year, with a first-come, first-served waitlist when it is full, and through the website. There is no tasting room, and Bragg Vineyards does not receive visitors. The day below stays in Calistoga, starting at Chateau Montelena, one of the wineries that once bought Bragg's grapes.

Tasting Fees

Bragg Vineyards does not offer tastings. The three wineries on the day below run about $225 per person: $65 at Chateau Montelena, $100 at Schramsberg and $60 at Frank Family.

Tasting fees as of October 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

A Suggested Six-Hour Day

Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from a Calistoga hotel such as Solage or Indian Springs.

10:00 · Pickup at Solage or Indian Springs

Since Bragg Vineyards does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do. Solage and Indian Springs are both in Calistoga, about 10 minutes from the first stop. The day runs about five and a half hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.

10:15 · Chateau Montelena

About 10 minutes away. The Calistoga estate whose Chardonnay beat the French in 1976, and one of the wineries that bought Bragg's Cabernet grapes before Bragg made its own wine. The walk-in tasting is $65, about 45 minutes; we allow about an hour. Open daily 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

11:25 · Schramsberg Vineyards

About 10 minutes away. America's sparkling wine pioneer on Diamond Mountain, with hillside caves dug in the 1870s. The cave tour with the classic tasting is $100, about an hour. By appointment only.

12:40 · Lunch at Sam's Social Club

About 10 minutes away. Lunch at Sam's Social Club at Indian Springs, on Lincoln Avenue in Calistoga; we confirm hours when we book. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

2:00 · Frank Family Vineyards

About 10 minutes away. A welcoming family estate on the historic Larkmead property, known for Cabernet, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The estate tasting is $60; we plan about an hour. Open daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; reservations required.

3:10 · Back to your hotel

Back by about 3:25 p.m., about five and a half hours after pickup.

About $225 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.

All three wineries are open daily, so this day works any day of the week. Schramsberg's cave tour time anchors the morning; Montelena's walk-in tasting runs from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., so the order can flip if needed.

Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
