Dann and Susan Boeschen met at Stanford, raised their family in Washington, and say they flunked retirement when they bought this St. Helena estate in 1999. The property was founded in 1880, and the family now farms its 11-acre vineyard and makes the wine from barrel to bottle. Every bottle comes from the estate, beside Howell Creek on the Silverado Trail in the St. Helena AVA.
Dann designed the underground winery himself, and in 2008 Boeschen became only the ninth winery in Napa Valley to complete the county's Green Certified Winery program. Susan, a Master Gardener, restored the grounds to feel like a garden of the late 1800s: a Victorian rose garden of 250 roses in 70 varieties, a Lady Banks rose about 150 years old, and what the winery calls the oldest Lord and Burnham greenhouse on the West Coast.
The visit is a tasting with the winemaker and a tour of the historic estate, the rose gardens, the underground winery and Dann's car barn: a 1955 Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing, a 1956 Porsche Speedster, a 1959 Porsche coupe and a 1966 Porsche 906 with its racing history. Guests who love cars should say so; the cars are shown on request. Visits are scheduled by email or phone.
Tasting fees to be verified upon reservation. Boeschen does not publish a tasting fee; it is confirmed when the visit is scheduled.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
