Bjorn Vineyards is a family operation on Howell Mountain. Bjorn and his brothers moved to the woods there 46 years ago, and as he tells it, he fell in love with a place of year-round springs, giant redwoods and wildlife. The wines are signed by Bjorn, Katie and the Larson family, with Richard and Myrtle Larson.
In 2002 the family planted a three-acre Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard to replace a very old orchard, and they have tended the vines and made the wine ever since, as grower-producers. Bjorn's philosophy is simple: great wines are made in the vineyard. He describes flavors of wild mountain cherry, chocolate and hints of the forest around the vines, with the cool, mineral edge of the mountain.
The current release is the 2022 Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, sold through the winery's online store along with earlier vintages. There is no tasting room or published visit program, so Bjorn Vineyards does not receive visitors. The day below stays on and around Howell Mountain, at a family estate near the summit and private tastings nearby.
Bjorn Vineyards does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

About 25 minutes away. A Brakesman family estate near the top of Howell Mountain, known for old-vine Zinfandel since the 1970s, with private vineyard tours and tastings. About 15 to 25 minutes away, depending on the estate the sisters confirm. Private tastings hosted by one of the four Mondavi sisters, makers of Aloft and Dark Matter, at a family estate. The Quintessential Tasting of four wines is $125; we allow about an hour. By request, Monday to Saturday; the sisters confirm the time and place.

About 8 minutes away. Single-vineyard Cabernet Francs and Cabernet Sauvignons poured side by side in a private salon in downtown St. Helena. The Collection Tasting is $75, about 90 minutes. By appointment only.
Back by about 4:20 p.m., about six and a half hours after pickup.
About $200 per person in tasting fees for the Mondavi Sisters' Collection and The Debate, paid directly to each winery, plus Summit Lake's fee, confirmed when we book.
Summit Lake and the Mondavi sisters host Monday to Saturday and confirm times when they accept the booking, so plan this day for Monday to Saturday. The day runs past six hours; extra time is billed by the hour. Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting.
