About the Winery

The Battuello family has farmed this St. Helena estate on Ehlers Lane since 1909, five generations working the same rocky soil. The family believes great wines are grown by careful hands and an intimate knowledge of the land, built vintage after vintage. Today it bottles its own wines from the estate under the Battuello name.

The estate sits in the St. Helena AVA at the north end of town. Alongside Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc, Battuello makes Valdiguié, the grape long called Napa Gamay, as a delicate red and as a rosé. It is a rare old Napa variety, and one guests rarely get to taste on a day of Cabernet.

Visits are by appointment and tailored to each group, coordinated ahead to preserve the character of the property. The tasting is personal, unhurried and shaped by the season, a chance to slow down among the vines. The family asks you to allow 90 minutes to two hours and to wear comfortable shoes and layers, so we keep the rest of the day light.

Tasting Fees

Tasting fees to be verified upon reservation. Battuello does not publish a tasting fee; it is confirmed when the visit is arranged.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

About $100 per person in tasting fees for Barrett & Barrett, plus Battuello's fee, which is confirmed when the visit is arranged. Fees are paid directly to each winery.

The Battuello visit runs 90 minutes to two hours and the Barrett & Barrett tasting about two hours, so this day has two wineries rather than three. La Sirena is closed on Tuesdays.
