Bac Hills is a small property on the western flank of Mount Veeder, with vineyard rows among oak and redwood, a house above a bocce court and a flock of hens. The name comes from an Italian saying passed down in the family, "Bacco ama le colline," or "Bacchus loves the hills," a reminder of how the Romans prized rocky slopes for their vines.
The estate makes a single wine: a 100% estate Cabernet Sauvignon from clones 319 and 412, drawn from the steepest part of the slope. The fruit is picked by hand in small lots, fermented in small batches and aged in new French oak for up to 23 months. The vines are farmed without pesticides, and stony soil and little water keep the berries small and dense.
The wine is sold by the case to members, through an allocation request on the website; released vintages include 2016, 2018 and 2021. The owners say they will start with a few dinners for a small group rather than a tasting room, and Bac Hills publishes no visiting program, so it does not receive visitors. The day below takes you to Mount Veeder and Yountville estates that do.
Bac Hills does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Since Bac Hills does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do, starting at the foot of Mount Veeder. Andaz Napa and Archer Hotel Napa are both in downtown Napa, about 12 minutes from the first stop. The day runs about six and a half hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 12 minutes away. A family ranch winery at the foot of Mount Veeder, named to the San Francisco Chronicle's Top Wineries list each year since 2021. The Classic Tasting of whites and reds is $75, 60 to 90 minutes. By appointment, daily from about 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
About 15 minutes away. The Mt. Veeder Experience climbs to about 2,000 feet, starting at the Mt. Brave Overlook among redwoods, oaks and madrones, then moves to a private seated tasting of organically farmed mountain wines. $175, 90 minutes or more, for 2 to 6 guests; the meeting point is confirmed with the booking.
About 25 minutes away. Lunch at Brix on Highway 29 near Yountville, a sit-down restaurant beside its own gardens. Lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 8 minutes away. A hillside estate in the Yountville AVA where the visit takes in the deep underground caves and a castle-style tasting room with vaulted ceilings of 18th-century brick. The Classic Experience of five or more wines is $175; we allow about 90 minutes. By appointment, Tuesday to Saturday.
Back by about 4:30 p.m., about six and a half hours after pickup.
About $425 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
Blankiet hosts Tuesday to Saturday, and the Mt. Brave meeting point and time are confirmed when we book, so we may adjust the order. Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting.
