About the Winery

Vine Wrangler is the label of proprietor Mark Strombotne, who grew up working cattle and riding broncs, helped start the first UC Davis rodeo team, then spent a career as a trial lawyer in San Jose before returning to farming as a winegrower in the Russian River Valley. The winemaker is Ashley Herzberg.

The wine is Pinot Noir grown only in the Highland Estate Vineyard in the Sebastopol Hills of Sonoma County, among redwoods, with Goldridge fine sandy loam, morning fog and ocean breezes. The vines are about 20 years old.

Vine Wrangler sells through its website and wine club, with free shipping in the US, and is poured at restaurants, hotels and country clubs, including the Westin and the Archer Hotel in Napa. The vineyard address in Sebastopol is not a tasting room, so Vine Wrangler does not receive visitors. The day below stays in the Sebastopol hills and the Green Valley, at three estates that pour cool-climate Pinot Noir.

Tasting Fees

Vine Wrangler does not offer tastings. The three wineries on the day below run about $115 per person: $45 at Merry Edwards, $35 at Iron Horse and $35 at Dutton-Goldfield.

Tasting fees as of October 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

3:15 · Back to your hotel

Back by about 3:30 p.m., about five and a half hours after pickup.
