A family winery with no tasting room shuffle: the Riggs family walks you through the vineyard and cellar and pours every glass, and a suggested six-hour day of tasting around it.

Jeff and Noël Riggs visited Napa Valley as often as they could in 2009, became part of the Napa community in 2011 and began their own wine in 2013. Jeff spent early summers on his grandparents' apple farms in Washington's Okanagan Valley and grew up walking through the Almaden vineyards on his way to school; he left a thirty-year corporate career to make the change. Noël grew up in Colorado. Troika is owned and run by the Riggs family, with three generations working together.
Troika buys fruit from select, designated vineyards in Napa, Sonoma and Mendocino Counties and makes small lots of the ones the family loves, among them an Atlas Peak Cabernet Sauvignon, a Bennett Valley Pinot Noir, Zinfandel and Sauvignon Blanc. Winemaker Jon Keyes works hands-on from the vineyard to bottling, alongside the family.
Since 2020 Troika has skipped the traditional tasting room for private tastings with the Riggs family at their Sonoma winery on Burndale Road. Guests walk the vineyard, tour the production space, hear how Troika began and taste the current releases at their own pace. It is quiet and personal, a calm contrast to the busier tasting rooms closer to town.
$50 for the Flagship Tasting and Tour, about an hour. $40 for the Reds Only Tasting and $30 for the Sipping Summer tasting of Sauvignon Blanc and rosé. Group tastings are priced when booked.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

MacArthur Place, a few blocks south of the plaza, is about 15 minutes from Troika, and Ledson Hotel, on the east side of the Sonoma Plaza, about 20. Troika hosts from noon, so this day starts later and ends around 5:15. The day below fits a six-hour tour, and extra time can be added by the hour.
The Flagship Tasting and Tour with the Riggs family, about an hour ($50).
About 20 minutes away. A small restaurant on East Napa Street, a few steps from the Sonoma Plaza, serving lunch Tuesday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Reservations open a month ahead, for parties of up to 6, and we book the table with the rest of the day. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 5 minutes away. Darling Wines began in 2017 with two barrels of organic Petaluma Gap Syrah that went on the list at Thomas Keller's Bouchon Bistro, and now works with small family growers from western Sonoma to Mendocino Ridge. The downtown tasting room books its Current Release tasting with a $45 deposit; the final fee is confirmed when we book. Thursday to Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., by appointment.
About 10 minutes away. Dominic, a former Los Angeles sommelier with a winemaking certificate from UC Davis, makes Domesday's wines from growers around Northern California and hosts every seated tasting himself on Hyde Road, pouring them side by side with the Sonocaia estate's Sagrantino. The Seated Tasting with the Winemaker is from $50, about 90 minutes, for up to 8 guests. Daily, by prepaid reservation.
Back in Sonoma by 5:15 p.m., within six hours of pickup.
Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting. Troika hosts from noon to 4, so this day starts at 11:40 and ends around 5:15. Darling opens Thursday to Sunday and Cafe La Haye serves lunch Tuesday to Saturday, so it works Thursday to Saturday. We confirm the late Domesday seating when we book.
About $100 per person for Troika and Domesday, paid directly to each winery; Darling takes a $45 deposit, and its final fee is to be verified upon reservation.
