About the Winery

Tim Bucher spent his career in Silicon Valley, at Sun Microsystems, NeXT, Apple, 3DO and WebTV, before he bought this hilltop on the east side of Dry Creek Valley in 1999. It was raw land then, overgrown with manzanita, with no power or water, and he planted it over years; Trattore's first wines were released in 2008. He also runs the Dry Creek Olive Company, started in 2006, which is bringing century-old olive orchards in the valley back into production.

The 40-acre ranch has eleven vineyard blocks on steep, stony hilltops, looking east to Geyser Peak and Mount St. Helena and west over Dry Creek Valley. It is planted mostly to Rhône varieties, Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Counoise, Cinsault, Viognier, Marsanne, Roussanne and Picpoul, along with Petite Sirah and Zinfandel, and some rows are picked together as field blends and fermented together. The estate olive oils have won gold medals at the Sonoma Harvest Fair.

The view is the reason to come: the tasting room and terrace look out in every direction, and the San Francisco Chronicle named Trattore one of its Top 25 wineries in 2024, 2025 and 2026. Guests can taste wine, olive oils or a food pairing, and the Get Your Boots Dirty tour takes 2 to 4 guests by ATV through the vineyards and the olive mill, starting with a glass of bubbles over the valley and ending with a full tasting.

Tasting Fees

$125 per person for Get Your Boots Dirty, the ATV vineyard and olive mill tour that ends with a full tasting, and for An Al Fresco Vineyard Experience, a private picnic for 4 to 10. Tasting fees for the Exploration Flight, Olive Oil Tasting and Paired Tasting Experience are to be verified upon reservation.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

A Suggested Six-Hour Day

Pickup at 10:40 a.m. from a hotel such as Geyserville Inn or Hotel Trio in Healdsburg.

10:40 · Pickup at Geyserville Inn or Hotel Trio

Geyserville Inn, on Geyserville Avenue at the north end of the village, is about 10 minutes from Trattore Farms and Hotel Trio, on Dry Creek Road on the north side of Healdsburg, about 20, so we time the pickup to have you there for the 11 o'clock opening. The day below fits a six-hour tour, and extra time can be added by the hour.

11:00 · Trattore Farms

A seated tasting or the Paired Tasting Experience on the terrace, or the Get Your Boots Dirty ATV tour ($125), booked ahead.

12:25 · Lunch at Catelli's

About 10 minutes away. Santi and Virginia Catelli opened this Geyserville restaurant in 1936, and their granddaughter, chef Domenica Catelli, carries on the family's handmade Italian cooking. Open Wednesday to Sunday from noon; we reserve the table for you. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

1:40 · Nalle Winery

About 15 minutes away. One of Dry Creek Valley's most respected Zinfandel houses: Doug Nalle's 1987 Zinfandel earned 92 points from Wine Spectator, and the 2019 Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel made its Top 100. Tastings are on the patio behind the living-roof cellar, a concrete arch covered in soil and rosemary, often poured by a member of the family. A flight of six wines is $35. Open Saturday from noon to about 4 p.m., and Wednesday to Friday by reservation.

2:55 · Mounts Family Winery

About 15 minutes away. The Mounts family has farmed this Dry Creek Valley estate since 1946, selling most of its grapes to other wineries; David and Lana Mounts launched their own label in 2005, the year the family's wine caves were built. Tastings are outdoors, looking over the vineyards. Fees are confirmed when we book; by reservation.

3:55 · Back to your hotel

Back in Healdsburg or Geyserville by 4:20 p.m., within six hours of pickup.

Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting. Trattore opens at 11, so this day starts with a 10:40 pickup. Trattore opens Thursday to Monday, and Nalle hosts by reservation Wednesday to Friday and opens Saturday afternoons, so this day works Thursday to Saturday.

About $35 per person at Nalle, paid directly to the winery; tasting fees at Trattore Farms (its ATV tour is $125) and Mounts are to be verified upon reservation.

Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
