About the Winery

Ted Seghesio is a fourth-generation Sonoma winemaker who spent decades at his family's winery, Seghesio Family Vineyards; the winery credits him with helping put California Zinfandel and Italian varieties on the map. When he left in 2018 he was not sure he would make wine again. With his wife, Dana, a veteran of domestic and export wine markets, he came back with a family label of their own, Solo Nostro, Italian for "ours alone."

Solo Nostro makes small lots from growers and sites the couple knows well. The flagship is Fenice, a Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel named for the phoenix, and the range runs to Raga Grenache Blanc and a Rhône white blend from Dry Creek Valley, Serpente Primitivo and Syrah from the Rockpile hills, a two-barrel Pinot Noir called Siren Song and an estate Dolcetto Rosato. The 2022 Fenice Zinfandel earned 93 points from Wine Spectator.

The tasting room is in the co-op at Bacchus Landing, a collection of seven boutique wineries two minutes from downtown Healdsburg, with a piazza, bocce courts and wood-fired pizza. It is a relaxed, sociable setting, and a good chance to taste with a winemaker whose name most Zinfandel lovers already know.
