Sol Rei is a young label built around a personal question. Its founder, Katherine, found that a single glass of some wines gave her a bad headache just as she was about to buy a vineyard, and with her doctor's help traced it to sulfites and histamines. Sol Rei is her answer: small-batch wines from sustainable and organic vineyards, each sent to an independent lab and released only if it passes the winery's limits for sulfites, histamines and trace pesticides.
The wines are made by the father and son team of Greg and Kyle Stokes, in a style the winery describes as low in tannin with a medium body. The first vintage was 2023: the 2023 Syrah won Double Gold at the 2025 San Francisco Wine Competition, and the 2023 Private Reserve red blend was an Editor's Choice in Wine Enthusiast. The lineup also includes Sauvignon Blanc and an organic Blanc de Blancs sparkling wine.
The tasting room is just steps from the Sonoma Plaza, down a walkway of arches and fountains off East Napa Street. Flights run from 20 minutes to an hour, which makes Sol Rei an easy first stop or a relaxed pause after lunch on the plaza, and the winery holds drop-off parking for car services. We confirm current details when we book.
$35 per person for Pure Exploration, three wines. $45 for Pure Delight, four wines with local focaccia and Sonoma County olive oil. $55 for Pure Bliss, four flagship wines including the organic Blanc de Blancs, with dark chocolates. We confirm the current price when we book.
Tasting fees as of October 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Pickup at 10:45 a.m. from a hotel on or near the Sonoma Plaza, such as MacArthur Place or El Dorado Hotel. Sol Rei is a few minutes away.
Sol Rei is about 5 minutes from MacArthur Place, a garden hotel a few blocks south of the plaza, and a short walk from El Dorado Hotel on the west side of the plaza. Pickup is set so you arrive as the tasting room opens at 11, and every stop today is within about 10 minutes of the next. Extra time can be added by the hour.

A short walk across the plaza. Lunch at the girl & the fig on West Spain Street, a long-running Sonoma restaurant for French country cooking made with local ingredients. We confirm hours when we book. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 10 minutes away. The Bundschu family's Rhinefarm estate on the east side of Sonoma, farmed since 1858, with a hillside wine cave. The seated Rhinefarm Tasting of estate wines is $45, or the Sonoma Original Bar Tasting of three wines is $30; plan on about 75 minutes.

Back by 4:20 p.m., within six hours of pickup.
Sol Rei is closed on Tuesday, so on a Tuesday we choose another plaza tasting room. Gundlach Bundschu is open daily with last seatings at 4 p.m. and recommends reservations Friday to Sunday, and Sebastiani is open daily until 5 p.m., so the rest of the day works any day of the week.
About $90 to $115 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
