Edoardo Seghesio left his family's vineyards in Piedmont in 1886 and came to work at the Italian Swiss Colony in northern Sonoma County, where he married his boss's niece, Angela. In 1895 they planted Zinfandel on their Home Ranch, and the family still farms those blocks. Seghesio is now part of Crimson Wine Group.
In 1910 the family planted Sangiovese and other Tuscan grapes by the Chianti train station, now the oldest Sangiovese planting in North America. Seghesio survived Prohibition by selling grapes and juice, later bought the Scatena Brothers winery in Healdsburg, still its home, and in 1993 cut production sharply to make wine only from its own vineyards. Today it farms more than 300 acres in the Russian River, Dry Creek and Alexander valleys, with winemaker Andy Robinson.
The tasting room is a few blocks from the Healdsburg plaza, at the gateway to Dry Creek Valley. Guests can taste Zinfandel and Italian varieties indoors or in the sunlit grove, play bocce, or take the Behind-the-Scenes tour through the crush pad and fermentation hall before a private tasting of the estate wines.
$20 for the 30-minute Bar Flight, no reservation needed. $30 for the Classico Flight and $45 for the Italian Roots Flight, each 60 minutes. $60 for the Behind-the-Scenes Tour and Tasting, 90 minutes. Bocce & Bottles is $50 per court for up to 6 people.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
